Choosing the best roofing company from the mound of other options can be difficult, which is why it’s important to know what to look for. The best companies will have endorsements from reputable third-party organizations, like the BBB, the Oklahoma Roofing Contractors Association (ORCA), or the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board. Here’s what that means:

Residential Roofing Endorsements

To be endorsed for residential roofing work by the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board, a roofing company is required to have a minimum $500,000 covered in liability insurance. Plus, they must meet all the quality standards set in place.

To earn a public endorsement, a company must fill out an in-depth, lengthy application and send it in on time. They must prove they are in good legal standing in addition to the liability insurance. Then, and only then, will the Oklahoma CIB endorse a roofing company for residential work.

Commercial Roofing Endorsements

Oklahoma CIB’s commercial endorsement requires $1,000,000 in general liability insurance and even more rigorous quality standards.

Just as with the residential endorsement, companies have to submit an application proving they have insurance and an Oklahoma roofing contractor registration in good standing.

After this is completed, applicants are required to take an exam at a state-licensed testing facility. This test is famously difficult, and failing leads to being barred from retaking the said exam for 30 days (for the first failure), and then 90 days for every subsequent failure!

Once a roofing company passes the exam, they are now one of the FEW publicly endorsed roofing companies out there! …as long as they renew that endorsement annually.

Roofing companies with a commercial endorsement are also required to complete at least four hours of continuing education every three years. And if a company lets its commercial endorsement lapse for more than a year, it can’t renew it at all! They have to apply for a new one.

If you’re looking for a reputable, trustworthy roofing company, look for someone who’s endorsed for both residential and commercial work by the Oklahoma CIB. When a roofing company has met those exacting standards, you know you’ll get a quality roof.
